This includes developing and implementing a strategic research plan, elevating the department's national reputation through research activities, and fostering an environment where research, teaching, and academic scholarship can thrive. The role also involves overseeing and expanding extramurally funded research programs, building collaborative research networks, and mentoring the next generation of physician-scientists. Applicants for the Vice Chair of Research position must have a medical degree, be board-certified in anesthesiology, and have a minimum of five years of active research experience with a proven track record of extramural funding. The ideal candidate will have a strong publication record, national recognition for research excellence, and prior management or leadership experience. The role requires the ability to meet the university's criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor and to champion the education and mentorship of the next generation of physician-scientists. The Vice Chair of Research will also be expected to monitor and report on key research performance metrics, foster accountability, and evaluate emerging technologies relevant to anesthesiology.
